Health Benefits of Grilling
Over the summer, many people choose to have outdoor cookouts with steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs and anything they may want for a party. Not only is grilling a great way to entertain, but it has great health benefits. Grilling reduces the hidden fat in meats and makes it easier to fix vegetables. While most people are used to grilling meats, grilling your vegetables can actually help you eat even healthier. When boiling vegetables, the hot and boiling water actually robs the vegetable of many of its nutrients. It takes only a fraction of the time to throw some vegetables on the grill, just enough time to heat them up AND preserve their nutritional value. If you're grilling vegetables, you should pick the ones with lower water content. Cabbage, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers and asparagus are examples of vegetables that grill well. You can grill them directly on the grill, or wrap them in tinfoil first. If you use the foil, you won’t have to add any fats or oils. Add extra flavor, but not extra fat, by using dry rub spices for meats or chicken, an Italian dressing marinade for meat, or peppers or mesquite wood chips with fish.
